Who is Soma?
Greetings and salutations! I'm Britney Dixon. I am a trauma therapist/sex therapist working with adults across all of North Carolina and Virginia by Telehealth and in person in Elizabeth City.
Most practices split trauma, relationships, and sex between multiple clinicians who never talk to each other. I do integrative work because in real life, they're usually the same story: a body that learned to brace, a nervous system that never got the all-clear, intimacy that got complicated somewhere along the way.
You shouldn't have to explain that over and over again to several different people.
What I help with
Trauma Therapy
For the stuff that doesn’t always have words. Body-based work (EMDR, Brainspotting, Internal Family Systems, Somatic Experiencing) for the trauma that's still running the show.

Sex Therapy
Desire, pain, intimacy, and the questions you've been afraid to ask. AASECT Certified. And no, it doesn't involve touch.
→ Sex Therapy
Couples & Relationships
For the relationship you actually have — monogamous, open, or poly, all genuinely welcome.
→ Couples & Relationships
Neurodivergence
ADHD, autism, and the experience of living in a world that wasn't exactly designed with your brain in mind. Adult ADHD/ASD assessment and neurodivergence-affirming therapy that starts with understanding how your brain works, not trying to make it look more neurotypical.
→ Neurodivergence & Adult ADHD/Autism Assessment
Psychedelic Integration
Making meaning out of an experience you already had, or preparing for an experience you are moving toward. Integration only.
→ Psychedelic Integration
Who you're actually working with
I'll be straight with you, because my clients tell me that's what they couldn't find in other places they’d been. I have ADHD, I suck at masking, and I don't want to be someone I am not. How I am on this site is how I am in the room and in all other settings in my life. I keep it real, and I won't judge you.
I bring my own life experience to the work I do. I have my own trauma history, was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, and live with chronic illness. I am a perimenopausal woman in my 40s. I have two adult neurodivergent children. I have lived a bit of life and have made some pretty ill-informed decisions that I have learned from and grown from. I am the last to admit that I know all the things. I am still growing and learning every single day.
I have done my own healing work, and I don't use tools on you that haven't been used on me. The way I see it, I can’t guide someone through dark spaces if I don’t know what the dark looks like or what it feels like in my own body to move through reprocessing trauma. Other clinicians can do what they feel is right for them. Not using tools I don’t understand from personal experience is what I feel is right for me.
If that's the kind of therapist you've been looking for and couldn't find, that's probably why you're here.
Genuinely welcome here — not just tolerated
LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent (ADHD, AuDHD, ASD), kink, and consensually non-monogamous folks: you won't have to teach me your own life before we can start. You will not have to explain yourself here.
Wherever you are in NC or VA
I see clients in person in Elizabeth City and by secure telehealth anywhere in North Carolina and Virginia. Same work, same presence, from wherever you actually are.

Not sure if I'm the right fit?
Good, that's exactly what a consult is for. It's a free 15-minute call, and my only job on it is to figure out whether I can actually help you or whether you'd be better off with someone else. I'll tell you either way.
In a crisis, I'm not the right first call.
I don't monitor messages around the clock. If you're in danger or thinking about harming yourself, reach one of these now:
